gnuTrade is pronounced ‘noo trade’ and was founded by a group of experienced financial traders in 2006 who wanted to make trading the markets easier and more enjoyable by reducing screens riddled with data and complex trading methods. Taking their ideas further, they teamed up with expert programmers and design specialists to create a unique, game-like trading platform for displaying financial market data, and new, easy ways to bet on the world markets. gnuTrade is about giving people with any level of financial trading experience, simple and enjoyable ways to trade the global markets (eg, stock indices, forex, bonds and commodities).
Account Setup:
At signup, gnuTrade requires your real name, username, email, password, birth date, country and a preferred currency which could be the pound, euro or dollar. You can then fund your account with a minimum deposit of $20 but you do not have to. Instead proceed to the trading platform to try it out first. A new window will open and load the gnuTrade web platform with a $10,000 practice balance available.
Buying and Selling:
At the top right of the platform, it is easy to switch between a real cash account and a practice account. Trades may only be placed when the market is open unlike some other market games available. As of this writing there are 17 securities tradable and include world stock market indexes, bonds, commodities and currencies. An interesting feature in gnuTrade is that you can make money by backing your favorite traders.
Community:
The only social aspect of this platform is the chat box available at the top left of the screen. You are able to create a chat room or join one of the premade chat rooms.
There is also a fun little game called the “Bull Bear Market Race” where you can select a market and how long the race lasts. If your bear or bull connected to the security you chose wins the race then you make money. You also have an option to play with real money using your standard gnuTrade account.
